Yashar Teymur oglu Aliyev ((アゼルバイジャン語:Yaşar Teymur oğlu Əliyev)) (born 19 August 1955) is Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations. He was the Ambassador of Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States in 2006-2011 and Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations in 2002—2006. He was also the first Azerbaijan's ambassador to Cuba (2006). ==Background and education== Yashar Aliyev is fluent in English, Arabic, Russian and Turkish. He is married and has two children. Aliyev attended Azerbaijan State University from 1972 to 1977, where he achieved the school's highest degree in Oriental Studies. He then attended the Academy of Sciences in Moscow, Russia, for post-graduate work at the Oriental Studies Institute, from 1980 to 1982. He also studied for one year in the early 1990s at the Diplomatic Academy of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
